“I’m 26 years old in this picture and in actually the prime of my athletic career.
But I’ve also probably just had one of my biggest failures. I’ve just come up short at the 2016 Olympic trials.
And maybe you can’t tell it from the photo. I am not really conveying defeat or showing how crushed I am at the moment. I am realizing that I’ve come up short. But I also found it really important to stay strong and not let the moment bring me down, because my dad’s there, my girlfriend’s there, coach, teammates, friends, fans.
I mean, this is right after the moment of stepping off the track so I could completely wear all my emotions and show that to everyone.
But I felt as important to essentially be a good loser as well as if I had finished top three, be a gracious winner.
I don’t ever want to change too much based on a win or a loss or result, because as far as anyone knows, it’s really much more about how you prepared.
Did you prepare your best? And sometimes it’s a 50/50 shot on the track. And this moment was was no different.
I just came up short.“
